Arlington, Texas — Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien has been selected American League Player of the Week for the week ending May 12, it was announced today by Major League Baseball.

This is the second time Semien has won the weekly award, as he also took the honors for June 3-9, 2019. It is the first time a Texas player has won the weekly award in 2024, as the club had a pair of winners last season: Adolis García for April 17-23 and Corey Seager for May 29-June 4.

Semien batted .419/.441/.645/1.086 (13-31) with 2 home runs, a double, 7 RBI and 8 runs scored over 7 games last week. He tied for the MLB lead in hits last week (also Oakland’s Abraham Toro) and ranked 2nd in the A.L. in runs to only teammate Leody Taveras (9 R). His 7 RBI were tied for 4th-most in the A.L.

Semien record 3 consecutive games with 3-or-more hits on Tuesday and Wednesday (doubleheader) at Oakland, the first time in his career to accomplish that feat and the first Texas batter to do it since Shin-Soo Choo from September 16-18, 2015.

For the year, Semien is batting .285/.332/.464/.795 (51-179) with 7 home runs, 9 doubles, a triple, 29 RBI and 32 runs scored. He ranks among American League leaders this season in runs (2nd, 32), hits (T2nd, 51), total bases (5th, 83), times on base (T6th, 64), RBI (7th, 29), and extra-base hits (T9th, 17). He has played in 336 consecutive games for Texas, the second-longest active streak in MLB to Atlanta’s Matt Olson (495) and the third-longest streak in Rangers history.
