May 29: LHP (sore left elbow) to start Sunday at Dodger Stadium
Gomber, who was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday, posted a 0.68 ERA in May and has a 2.76 ERA overall. He is one of six pitchers in Rockies history to have a sub-3.00 ERA after 10 starts. So to keep him healthy, the Rockies pushed him back a few days when he emerged from his last start on May 22 with soreness at the back of his left elbow. Manager Bud Black announced Gomber’s next starting assignment on Wednesday.

Gomber pointed out that he has experienced the issue before, but he has been able to make his following start because the team was on the road, where recovery is easier than at Denver’s altitude.

In his last start, Gomber held the Athletics to one run in eight innings. The way Gomber navigated that game is instructive. He relied more on his curveball than he does at Coors, and the lefty is having his best season in terms of adjusting quickly to how his pitches are behaving in a given outing -- a requirement for a Rockies pitcher who is bouncing between a unique home atmosphere and the road.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

OF (low back strain, left knee)
Expected return: TBD
On May 31, Jones was in Albuquerque, but not in the Isotopes' starting lineup. He is working toward resuming his rehab assignment, possibly as early as June 1. Jones completed his work in Denver with a full session of batting practice, fielding and baserunning on May 29. He finished by practicing diving back into first base on pantomime pickoff moves. The current injury is to his left knee, sustained after a rehab assignment at Albuquerque for his back injury. (Last updated: May 31)

OF (broken left hand, Rockies No. 4 prospect)
Expected return: Late June or early July
Beck was called up on April 30 for his Major League debut, and he was going through the ups and downs of being a rookie before sustaining a broken left hand while making a diving catch on May 25. Dr. Donald Sheridan performed surgery on May 29 to insert a plate in the hand to aid in healing. Manager Bud Black gave a timeline of 4-6 weeks. (Last updated: May 29)

RHP (right shoulder strain)
Expected return:
Mid-June
Lawrence has pitched 21 1/3 innings with 20 strikeouts but 15 walks. He began the year as the nominal closer, but struggled in some game-turning situations. After resting his arm, Lawrence will work with coaches to correct mechanical issues that are preventing him from landing pitches in proper locations. (Last updated: May 27)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Early June
Bird (1-1, 6.10 ERA in 19 appearances) struggled mightily with command -- 15 walks, including five to first batters. Bird has been rehabbing at the team’s complex in Scottsdale, Ariz., and is expected to return to the mound soon. Last season, Bird, 28, led the Rockies with 70 appearances and was one of the team's most trusted and consistent relievers. (Last updated: May 27)

60-DAY IL

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: Around midseason
Márquez is scheduled to throw his next bullpen June 1 at Los Angeles. He threw a 25-pitch bullpen session at 85 percent effort on May 28 at Coors Field. "He's excited -- you can tell by the smile on his face he's feeling good," manager Bud Black said. "It's just a matter of time." Márquez threw in an Arizona Complex League game but took a step back after feeling discomfort in the back of his right elbow. But he rested and is now back at it. "This is going to make me better -- better athlete, better pitcher, better person," said Márquez, who will go through a Spring Training-type progression that should have him in the Majors either just before or just after the All-Star break. RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: TBD
On May 31, manager Bud Black said Senzatela could be “going to the mound next week,” for a bullpen session in front of the Major League coaching staff. Senzatela was with the team in Los Angeles for the series beginning May 31 and will stay in Denver when the club departs its next home series against the Reds for stops at St. Louis and Minneapolis. LHP (left elbow strain)
Expected return: Mid-to-late June
On May 29, Freeland threw his first bullpen session since sustaining the injury during an outing at Toronto on April 14. He threw 30-35 pitches, his entire pitch mix, at full intensity. “Windup, stretch, no issues,” Freeland said. He’ll throw another bullpen in Los Angeles on June 1, during which he will sit after 20 pitches, rest, then throw 20 more to simulate the pace of a game. After that, he is not far from facing hitters. (Last updated: May 29)

LHP (Tommy John surgery, shoulder discomfort)
Expected return: TBD
Gilbreath has responded well to playing catch and said he is “champing at the bit” to do more. But he’s adhering to the Rockies’ plan, which has him doing exercises and not throwing for the three days that the team is in Los Angeles the weekend of May 31-June 2. He’ll wait for the next phase, which will be given to him when the team returns home on June 3. (Last updated: May 29)

RHP (right forearm)
Expected return: 2025
Bard, who tore the meniscus in his left knee while playing catch prior to Spring Training and underwent surgery, had a setback rehabbing and will undergo season-ending surgery on his right arm on May 1. The Rockies placed him on the 60-day IL to add LHP Ty Blach to the active roster.

Bard, 38, is in the final year of a two-year, $19 million contract. Bard has said he would like to return after a year of rehab, but he will see how he feels and consult his family before committing to pitching again. Read more >> (Last updated: April 21)
