LATEST NEWS

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (left groin strain)
Expected return: Late June
On June 14, Darvish traveled with the team and threw a bullpen session before the club's series opener against the Mets at Citi Field. On June 16, the right-hander continued his progression, throwing a flat-ground session before the series finale. Darvish pitched three innings against the Marlins on May 29 before exiting with what was described as left hamstring tightness at the time. Manager Mike Shildt said that they're still monitoring his progress but that it seems that Darvish "continues to be in a good spot." Still, the Padres are likely to be cautious with Darvish in his second IL stint of the season. He missed the minimum 15 days in April with a neck issue. (Last updated: June 16)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Second half, potentially August
Musgrove was scratched from his scheduled start on June 1 against the Royals and placed on the IL with elbow inflammation and soreness in his right triceps. An MRI revealed a bone spur that Musgrove said has been causing the inflammation and discomfort -- and he received a PRP injection in addition to a prior cortisone shot. Musgrove spent 2 1/2 weeks on the IL in May with the same injury. On June 16, Musgrove shared that he plans to pick up a ball and attempt to throw at some point in the next couple of days. RHP (right shoulder teres major strain)
Expected return: Possibly July
Otto was assigned to the Arizona Complex League to begin a rehab assignment on June 4. After dealing with shoulder trouble last season, Otto suffered a setback during the early stages of Spring Training, and he did not pitch during the season's first two months. The Padres claimed Otto off waivers from the Rangers last September. He was expected to be part of their rotation competition, but instead he opened the year on the injured list. His return would bring valuable depth for a rotation that could use it. (Last updated: June 4)

2B Xander Bogaerts (left shoulder fracture)
Expected return: Second half
Bogaerts suffered a left shoulder fracture on May 20 in Atlanta when he dived to stop a Ronald Acuña Jr. grounder to his left side and awkwardly rolled on his left arm. The team has not given a timetable for Bogaerts' return, though he noted that the injury wouldn't require surgery. Bogaerts also said the fracture would need to heal fully before he can begin his buildup toward a return. Neither Bogaerts nor the Padres offered an estimation as to when that might be. 60-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP Luis Patiño (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery on April 30, putting an end to his 2024 season before it began. The 24-year-old made two appearances in Spring Training before opening the season on the IL. The Padres, who originally signed Patiño as an amateur free agent before dealing him to Tampa Bay in the 2020 Blake Snell trade, claimed Patiño off waivers from the White Sox in December.
