Maxwell Carter Schuemann was originally signed by A’s scout Rich Sparks…graduated from Portage Northern High School…played three seasons at Eastern Michigan University where he earned Second Team All-MAC honors as a junior in 2018.
2023
Began the season at Double-A Midland and hit .269 in 13 games before he was moved up to Triple-A Las Vegas on April 24…spent the remainder of the season with the Aviators and hit .277 in 103 games…combined for a .276 batting average, 10 home runs, 51 RBIs, 23 stolen bases and an .832 OPS in 116 games...Added 73 walks and was hit by a pitch 15 times to fuel a .402 on-base percentage...Had career highs in batting, slugging (.430), OPS, runs (97), triples (6), home runs, RBI, walks and strikeouts (106)...Tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in hit by pitches (14) and ranked seventh in on-base percentage (.402)...Led the A’s farm system in runs scored and walks, ranked second in on-base percentage, tied for second in hit by pitches, tied for third in triples (6), seventh in OPS, eighth in stolen bases, ninth in slugging (.430) and 10th in batting and hits (111)…Batted .289 (24-for-121) with a .918 OPS against left-handed pitchers compared to .270 (76-for-281) with a .795 OPS against right-handers…hit nine of his 10 home runs off righties...Had a .302 batting average with runners on base...Hit .304 in 17 day games…slugged all 10 of his home runs at night...Was 16-for-31 (.516) with seven hit by pitches (.605 on-base percentage) on an 0-0 count...Started games at seven different positions (39 in center field, 33 in left field, 11 in right field, 10 at shortstop, eight at third base, six at second base and one at designated hitter)…it was the third time in his career he started games at seven different positions and he has started games at at least five different positions in all five seasons of his career...Committed six errors, four of which came as a center fielder…also had one at third base in one in right field…had five outfield assists...Made starts in every spot in the batting order except cleanup…hit .277 with a .405 on-base percentage in 40 starts in the leadoff spot.

Spent most of the season at Double-A Midland where he batted .290 with eight home runs, 39 RBIs, 23 stolen bases and a .418 on-base percentage in 79 games…also hit .143 in 11 games with Triple-A Las Vegas and combined for a .274 batting average, .403 on-base percentage, nine home runs, 41 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 90 games overall…his on-base percentage is a career high…ranked second in the Texas League in hit by pitches (17)…ranked second in the A’s farm system in on-base percentage and hit by pitches (17), third in stolen bases, tied for fourth in walks (56), tied for fifth in OPS (.825) and runs (67) and sixth in batting…hit .306 with an .863 OPS against left-handed hitters compared to .263 with an .811 OPS against right-handers…all nine of his home runs came with runners on base and in night games…seven were hit on the road… batted .317 in April, .333 in May and .349 in June…then hit .130 in July, .160 in August and .185 in September…started games at seven different positions (34 in center field, 32 at second base, 10 at shortstop, seven in left field, three at designated hitter, two in right field and one at third base)…made five errors as a second baseman (.967 fielding percentage), three as a shortstop (.919) and one each in left field and center field…made 79 starts batting leadoff and hit .286 with a .416 on-base percentage and 22 stolen bases in those games…began the season at Midland and reached base safely in 29 of his first 30 games, batting .381 with a .490 on-base percentage…went 5-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI on April 23 at Wichita…it was his first career five-hit game, his first two-homer game and his second four-RBI game…his second five-hit game came two weeks later on May 6 at Amarillo and his second two-homer game and third four-RBI contest was on June 3 at Amarillo…had a season-high 10-game hitting streak from April 29-May 10 (22-for-39, .564)…stole the 100th base of his minor league career on May 10 against Corpus Christi…reached base safely in 19 consecutive games from June 3 to July 7…hit .359 with a .523 on-base percentage and 1.195 OPS over that span…was on the Covid-19 injured list during the streak from June 23 to July 1…was hitting .315 with seven home runs, 34 RBIs, 22 stolen bases and a .930 OPS in 65 games with the RockHounds before he was moved up to Las Vegas on July 11… went 5-for-35 (.143) in 11 games with the Aviators before returning to Midland on Aug. 3…batted .173 over his final 14 games…was on the injured list from Aug. 13 to Sept. 2 with a strained left quadriceps…hit .185 with a .290 on-base percentage in eight games after he was reinstated.

Played at three different levels in the A’s farm system and batted a combined .271 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs in 119 games with High-A Lansing, Double-A Midland Triple-A Las Vegas…was successful in 52-of-57 (91.2%) stolen base attempts…added 53 walks and was hit by a pitch 21 times for a .372 on-base percentage…had career highs in stolen bases, hits (121), hit by pitches, at bats (446) and games played…led the A’s farm system in runs (83), hits, doubles (25), stolen bases and hit by pitches, ranked fourth in on-base percentage and walks, tied for sixth in extra base hits (35) and ninth in batting…batted .344 with an .877 OPS against left-handed pitchers, .253 with six of his seven home runs and a .731 OPS against right-handers…hit .241 with the bases empty, .325 with runners on…combined for a .321 batting average in his home ballparks… hit .214 on the road…four of his seven home runs gave his teams the lead…started games at six different positions (53 at shortstop, 43 at second base, 12 in center field, five in right field and one each in left field and at designated hitter)…made 11 errors as a shortstop (.941 fielding percentage) and five as a second baseman (.976)…made 78 starts in the leadoff spot and batted .306 with a .398 on-base percentage and 40 stolen bases in those games…started games at every spot in the order except third and fourth…was named an A’s Organizational All-Star by MiLB. com…began the season at Lansing…had a 24-game reaching base streak from May 8 to June 6 and hit .284 with a .409 on-base percentage over that span…scored a career-high four runs May 20 at Fort Wayne…had his first career four-RBI game May 25 against Great Lakes…was successful in each of first 14 stolen base attempts when he had his first caught stealing on May 30 against Great Lakes…then had a streak of 20 consecutive stolen bases until his next caught stealing on July 11 at Great Lakes…hit .284 in 21 games in May but had 11 walks and eight hit by pitches for a .426 on-base percentage…stole a career high five bases on June 15 against Great Lakes…was a perfect 16-for-16 in stolen bases attempts in 23 games in June…was batting .224 with five home runs, 20 RBIs and 34 stolen bases in 54 games with Lansing when he was promoted to Midland on July 13…hit .320 with two home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 57 games in his Double-A debut…reached base safely in a career-high 29 consecutive games from Aug. 4-Sept. 7…hit .402 with a .471 on-base percentage over that span…had his second five-steal game of the season and his career on Aug. 4 at Wichita…had a career-high 12-game hitting streak from Aug. 10-24 (26-for-52, .500)…went 0 for 2 on Aug. 25 and then hit safely in 11 straight games from Aug. 26 to Sept. 8 (17-for-50, .340)…batted .402 in 25 games in August…was moved up to Las Vegas on Sept. 20 and hit .231 with an RBI and a stolen base in eight games with the Aviators.

Spent his first full professional season at Single-A Beloit and batted .256 with three home runs and 35 RBIs in 94 games…had a career-high 29 doubles…ranked fourth in the Midwest League in doubles, tied for sixth in stolen bases (25) and tied for seventh in hit by pitches (14)… ranked second in the A’s farm system in stolen bases, tied for second in hit by pitches and tied for fifth in doubles…batted .295 with a .809 OPS against left-handed hitters compared to .247 with all three of his home runs and a .691 OPS against right-handers…started games at seven different positions (47 at shortstop, 23 at third base, 14 at first base, three at designated hitter, two each at second base and left field and one in right field)…had a season-best seven-game hitting streak from the second game of a May 20 doubleheader through the first game of a May 29 doubleheader (13-for-26, .500)…went 4-for-4 with a career-high three doubles on May 22 against Clinton…hit .400 in 13 games in May…hit his first professional home run July 6 at Wisconsin… stole seven bases over a four-game stretch from Aug. 14-17.
2018
Made his professional debut with Short-Season Vermont and batted .195 with a double and six RBI in 45 games…was successful in 11-of-12 (91.7%) stolen base attempts…tied for seventh in the New York-Penn League in hit by pitches (9)…hit .228 against right-handed pitchers and was 1-for-22 (.045) against left-handers…batted .250 with runners in scoring position…started games at five different positions (16 at third base, 11 at shortstop, four in right field, three at second base, one in left field)…went 0-for-1 in his debut on June 21 against Hudson Valley and recorded his first hit and stolen base on June 24 at Aberdeen.
