Married Julia on Nov. 23, 2024 in Dennison, Ohio, four days after being added to the Padres' 40-man roster...the couple got engaged on Feb. 5, 2023...Son of Todd and Kim Bergert, and he has a brother...Attended GlenOak High School in Canton, Ohio, where he played basketball and baseball...as a senior in 2019, he went 4–2 with a 3.19 ERA and 66 strikeouts over 37 innings...Attended West Virginia University where he played baseball and majored in sport management...in his sophomore season in 2020, was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and posted a 2.92 ERA in 24.2 innings...Underwent Tommy John surgery following the 2020 season, and he did not pitch in 2021, getting selected by the Padres in the 6th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

Invited to his first Major League Spring Training with the Padres before spending the entire campaign with Double-A San Antonio, where he made 23 appearances (all starts) with a 2-10 record, 4.78 ERA (52 ER, 98.0 IP) and .268 opponents’ AVG...Completed 4.0 innings in 17 of his 23 starts, going 2-7 with a 3.71 ERA (35 ER, 85.0 IP) and 72 strikeouts against 26 walks when he tossed at least 4.0 innings...Allowed two ER-or-fewer in 16 of his 23 starts, going 2-4 with a 2.94 ERA (23 ER, 70.1 IP) and a .219 opponents’ AVG in those starts...SA went 7-16 in his 23 starts…they won his first three but he did not factor into any of those wins before losing each of his next four, and he was tagged with the loss in all four...his first winning decision didn’t come until June 8 at Midland, his 11th start of the campaign...Four of his nine career outings tossing at least 6.0 innings came in 2024, going 1-3 with a 2.63 ERA (7 ER, 24.0 IP), .190 opponents’ AVG and a 22-to-1 SO/BB ratio when tossing 6.0 IP in ’24...Earned Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of Aug. 12-18 after retiring all 18 batters he faced in a combined no-hitter for the Missions vs. the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Aug. 15…it was the first weekly honor of his career, and he recorded his second win in the process and tied his career high with nine strikeouts...Including his Aug. 15 hitless performance, he closed the season completing at least 5.0 innings in each of his last six starts from Aug. 15-Sept. 14, going a combined 1-3 with a 3.21 ERA (12 ER, 33.2 IP) and .190 AVG with 32 SO against 10 BB...Was scoreless across in both of his two ML Spring Training outings, allowing one hit with one strikeout, one walk and one hit batter in 3.0 innings of work...Following the season, made five appearances in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas and posted a 11.70 SO/9 IP ratio and 7.36 ERA (12 ER, 14.2 IP)...Entered 2025 ranked as the Padres' No. 21 prospect by Baseball America and No. 22 by MLB Pipeline.
2023
In his second full Minor League season, split 2023 between Single-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antionio, making a combined 23 appearances (20 starts) for a 2.73 ERA (32 ER, 105.2 IP) and earning his first-career MiLB.com Organization All-Star honors following the season...Began the season with Fort Wayne, working primarily in a starting role...in 14 appearances (12 starts), he went 5-2 for a 2.63 ERA (18 ER, 61.2 IP) with a .202 opponent clip and 1.18 WHIP...in his 12 starts, he was 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA at the Single-A level...While with the TinCaps, the right-hander had reverse splits, holding left-handed batters to just a .194 clip (26-for-134) and right-handed hitters to a .213 average (19-for-89)...Held opponents to a .204 batting average overall (77-for378) and fanned 126 of his 431 batters faced... Promoted to the Double-A level on July 14, where he remained for the rest of the season...for the Missions, he made nine appearances (eight starts) for a 2.86 ERA...His 1.14 WHIP with the Missions marked his best with a single team in a season (besides his .081 WHIP with Rookie-Level ACL Padres in 2021)...Of Bergert's 177 batters faced for the Missions, he allowed just one home run...Struck out 51 batters while allowing just 18 free passes in his nine appearances with San Antonio.
