Twins place Willi Castro on 10-day injured list

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed utility player Willi Castro on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to April 21) with a right oblique strain.

Castro was removed from Minnesota’s game on April 16 vs. New York-NL in the eighth inning with the injury. Castro, who turns 28-years-old today, has hit .227 (15-for-66) with six doubles, one home run, five RBI, three walks, seven runs scored and a .655 OPS in 18 games for the Twins this season.

To replace Castro on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled utility player Mickey Gasper from the Saints. Gasper, who was optioned to St. Paul on April 18 after making the Twins’ Opening Day roster, played in four games for the Saints, hitting .333 (4-for-12) with one double, two home runs, three RBI, three walks, one stolen base and five runs scored.

Additionally, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher David Festa to St. Paul. Festa, who was recalled from St. Paul on April 11, made three starts for the Twins, posting a 1.38 ERA (13.0 IP, 2 ER) with five walks, 15 strikeouts and a 1.31 WHIP. Minnesota plans to play today’s game against the Chicago White Sox with 25 players on roster and will make a corresponding 26-man roster move prior to tomorrow night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
