PETER A. MAGOWAN FIELDS FOR KIDS

The Peter A. Magowan Fields for Kids program is named in honor of the late San Francisco Giants President and Managing General Partner for his decades of leadership in the Giants organization and his commitment to helping those most in need.

The Peter A. Magowan Fields for Kids program reaches out to underserved communities where the Junior Giants program exists in order to enhance recreational opportunities and create safer places to play.

Since 1995, the Giants Community Fund has worked with Giants players and partners, including the Good Tidings Foundation, to renovate 29 youth baseball fields.

Suisun City

Taylor and Tyler Rogers, twin brothers playing on the same Major League team, have a history of giving back to the community through their foundation, The Rogers Family Foundation. When they heard of a need for a brand new field in Suisun City that would allow more Junior Giants to play baseball than ever before, they quickly signed on to support the project. “It means the world to have the opportunity to bring a fresh ballpark to a community so that kids now

and in the future can experience this great game of baseball - the way [Tyler and I] were fortunate enough to. We are grateful to be teaming up with the Giants Community Fund and its partners to make this happen in Suisun City,” said Taylor Rogers, Giants pitcher. In partnership with the Good Tidings Foundation and the Suisun City Recreation Recreation, Parks & Marina Department, a new field at Quail Glen Park was built that includes a new backstop, fences and dugouts with player benches, compacted and graded soil, new sod, concrete and stadium bleachers.

Vallejo

A California native, Crawford was born in Mountain View and grew up in Pleasanton, only 42 miles from Vallejo. Brandon annually donates a portion of his salary to charitable causes. After his support of the Gilman Field Renovation in San Francisco’s Bayview community in 2021, he knew it was important to continue providing more opportunities for youth to play on high quality fields. The four-time MLBPAA Giants Heart & Hustle Award winner is also involved with many charitable causes such as the ALS Cure Project, Bay Area Make-A-Wish and Casa Colina. The restored field features new grass infields, outfields, bases, infield and outfield dirt warning track mix, fence caps and poles, dugout roofs and benches, electric scoreboard, paint and a custom mural, fence and backstop repair as well as irrigation and valves.

Vallejo

San Bruno

Named after the late Bob Greenberg, San Bruno Junior Giants Commissioner from 1995-2006, this baseball field was dedicated in his name in 2017 to recognize the work of Greenberg and his wife, Lorry. The recent renovation further preserves his legacy within the community, creating a safe place for children to play baseball and softball. “These field renovation projects are certainly awesome at face value, but they are so much more than grass and dirt. This project at Bob Greenberg Junior Giants Field brings renewed activity, safety and opportunities for learning and social connection to the whole community. We can’t thank Alex Wood, Good Tidings and the City of San Bruno enough for their commitment to the kids and families.” said Giants Community Fund Executive Director Sue Petersen. The restored field features new grass infields, outfields, bases, dugout roofs, backstop boards, bleachers, cement work and improved irrigation systems.

Richmond

The restored Nicholl Park baseball fields create a safer, equitable and state-of-the-art location for children to play baseball and softball. The three fields feature improved irrigation systems and brand new grass infields and outfields, bases, pitching mounds and a Willie Mays banner. In addition to the refurbishment, the Nicholl Park baseball fields were re-named the Willie Mays Junior Giants Fields, and a new monument was established honoring Willie Mays. “The Giants and Giants Community Fund are proud to be part of this wonderful celebration and tribute to Willie Mays. This honor bestowed on Willie by the City of Richmond is so fitting. By enshrining his legacy on their Walk of Honor, all who visit this park can learn about Willie’s amazing career. Here, thousands of kids for generations to come, will play the game he so loved and who knows, might just grow up to be a “Say Hey” kid themselves,” said San Francisco Giants President and CEO Larry Baer.

San Francisco - Bayview

In proud partnership with the Good Tidings Foundation, San Francisco Recreation and Parks and Brandon Crawford, the Giants Community Fund restored the Gilman Playground baseball field to create a safer, equitable, state-of-the-art location for children to play baseball and softball. The field features a brand-new grass infield and outfield, a refurbished plaza entryway to the field, a fresh coat of paint on the backstop and new dugout fencing and benches. “The revitalization of the field is the final piece in the incredible transformation of Gilman Playground, which underwent a makeover of its children’s play area and restrooms in 2016,” said San Francisco Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg. “We are grateful to the Giants Community Fund for bringing it on home by investing in Bayview youth.”

Modesto

The Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation partnered with the City of Modesto and Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt to dedicate the Jeremy Affeldt Junior Giants Field at Enslen Park in Modesto through the Peter A. Magowan Fields for Kids program.

With funding from the above partners and special contributions from Robert A. Bothman, Inc., West Coast Turf, Calco Fence, Imperial Sprinkler Supply and Kelly-Moore Paints, the Jeremy Affeldt Junior Giants Field will provide a safe, state-of-the-art location for local kids to play ball. The field features new vinyl-coated fencing for the backstops and dugouts, new irrigation system, fresh infield and outfield sod, improved drainage, a new field for tee-ball players, all new concrete dugouts and seating areas, concrete seat wall and drinking fountain.

Los Banos

The Giants Community Fund, Toyota dealers, the Good Tidings Foundation and the Los Banos Police Activities League were proud to partner on the dedication of the Los Banos PAL Junior Giants Field at the 7th Street Park in Los Banos.

Late 2012, the Junior Giants teamed up with Buster Posey and Toyota dealerships to allow fans to vote on Facebook for a Junior Giants field to receive a makeover. After six weeks of voting, the Los Banos Junior Giants won the contest and $20,000 in renovations, facilitated by the Good Tidings Foundation.

The field features a new mound, homeplate, bases and irrigation system, as well as fresh infield sod and a fresh coat of AT&T Park Green paint on the fencing, storage containers, snack bar and score booth.

Sacramento

The Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation were proud to partner with the City of Sacramento and Giants pitcher Matt Cain to dedicate Matt Cain Junior Giants Field at the George Sim Community Center. The field features new vinyl-coated fencing for the backstops and dugouts, upgraded irrigation system, fresh infield and outfield sod, improved drainage and a new backstop for tee-ball players.

May Nissen Park, Livermore

Giants pitcher and Cy Young Award winner Randy Johnson teamed up with the Giants Community Fund, Chevron, Good Tidings Foundation, Livermore Area Recreation and Park District and the City of Livermore to renovate a baseball field at May Nissen Park in Johnson's hometown of Livermore, Calif. The site features new dugouts, fencing, a new infield irrigation system, fresh sod, infield cinder, concrete work behind the dugouts and backstop and a seat wall for viewing. The kids participating in the newly established Livermore Junior Giants league are sure to enjoy the renovated field.

Daly City

The Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation were proud to partner with the Brisbane School District, the County of San Mateo and Giants centerfielder Aaron Rowand to dedicate the Aaron Rowand Junior Giants Field at Panorama Elementary School in Daly City. The field features a brand new backstop, dugouts, irrigation system and fresh sod and has also been revamped to include improved drainage and a concrete seat wall.

San Francisco

The Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation, in partnership with Omar Vizquel, the San Francisco Giants, Major League Baseball, Robert A. Bothman and San Francisco Recreation & Parks renovated the Excelsior Playground Field for the Excelsior community and Junior Giants baseball. The field renovation included installing a new backstop, dugouts and sod and upgrading the irrigation system. Also part of the project and adjacent to the field on the first-base side is a colorful mural designed by Precita Eyes muralists and Giants shortstop Omar Vizquel. This project was made possible through generous contributions from all of the project partners and the Peter A. Magowan Fields for Kids program.

Van Buskirk Community Center, Stockton

The Giants Community Fund, Good Tidings Foundation and San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito, in association with Delta Bluegrass Company, renovated two baseball fields at the Van Buskirk Community Center. This project, valued at $250,000, included the upgrading of the field's irrigation system, installing new fencing and cement work, and replacing the sod and infield dirt. The Stockton fields will not only serve as the new home for Junior Giants players but will also be utilized throughout the year by organizations including the City of Stockton Parks & Recreation, local schools and other community-based youth sports leagues.

Haina, Dominican Republic

The Giants Community Fund, in partnership with Chevron and former Giants outfielder Moises Alou, renovated four fields in honor of the Alou family at the Hogar Escuela Santo Domingo Savio in the Alou family's hometown of Haina, Dominican Republic. The renovation included the upgrading of the drainage and irrigation systems, the installation of new fencing and backstops as well as the replacement of the sod and infield dirt. This special field renovation is the first to be conducted by the Community Fund outside of the Junior Giants baseball program territory.

Nicholl Park, Richmond

The Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation together with first-time field partners Chevron Richmond Refinery and Giants pitcher Armando Benitez renovated the Junior Giants Field at Nicholl Park. The project included the upgrading of the field's irrigation system, installing new fencing and cement work and replacing the sod and infield dirt. The field will serve as the home for Junior Giants players and will be utilized throughout the year by the Richmond Police Activities League (PAL), local schools and other community-based youth sports leagues.

Milton Meyer Recreation Center, San Francisco

The Giants Community Fund and Good Tidings Foundation were pleased to once again work with Applied Materials on a field renovation. This year, pitcher Kirk Rueter joined as a significant donor to the project. The field renovation was also supported by a number of community partners including Mayor Gavin Newsom, the American Fence Association CFCA Chapter, the San Francisco City Attorney's office, the San Francisco Police Department, the San Francisco Housing Authority, the Olympic Club Foundation and the Bayview Rotary Club.

John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Daly City

This field is dedicated to the memory of Bobby Bonds and is the second venture combining the resources of Applied Materials with the Giants Community Fund and Good Tidings Foundation. The Jefferson School District and the City of Daly City have also stepped up to the plate with funds and materials to complete the project and will help maintain the field.

San Jose

The Selma Olinder field renovation marks the initial collaboration between corporate supporter Applied Materials and the Giants Community Fund. As a strong ally of community development projects, Applied Materials is a natural supporter of the Giants Community Fund and the Junior Giants. The Good Tidings Foundation, San Jose Unified School District and Selma Olinder Elementary School also played instrumental roles in the renovation and will continue to support expanded programs for underserved youth at this new field.

San Francisco

Barry Bonds Junior Giants Field is a tee-ball field across from the big league ballpark, sponsored by the Giants Community Fund, the Good Tidings Foundation and the Barry Bonds Family Foundation. The field serves as home to the San Francisco Junior Giants tee-ball league as well as challenger leagues (for those with disabilities) and is available for kids of all ages to enjoy.

East Palo Alto

The Giants Community Fund, the Good Tidings Foundation and Jason Schmidt partnered to contribute $100,000 for the refurbishment of the baseball field at Jack Farrell Park, including sod, irrigation, basepath cinder, fencing, backstop and concrete work.

Redwood City

The Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation partnered to finance and manage the complete refurbishment of the baseball field at Selby Lane School, including sod, irrigation, basepath cinder, fencing, backstop and cement work.

San Francisco

The Giants Community Fund, the Good Tidings Foundation, and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department funded $300,000 worth of improvements to the three-field, baseball complex at Crocker Amazon Park. In the heavily used park near the Cow Palace, we added new sod, basepath cinder, fencing, paint and a dual-sided scoreboard.
