White Sox announce four roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to today’s series finale vs. Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:

  • Recalled from Class AAA Charlotte (1): RHP Prelander Berroa;
  • Selected contract from Charlotte (1): RHP Brad Keller;
  • Optioned to Charlotte (1): RHP Jonathan Cannon;
  • Designated for assignment (1): RHP Deivi García.

Berroa, 24, is 1-2 with an 8.74 ERA (11 ER/11.1 IP) and 13 strikeouts over 11 relief appearances with Charlotte this season, his first in the White Sox organization after being acquired from Seattle with outfielder Zach DeLoach and a Competitive Balance B selection (No. 69 overall) on February 3 in exchange for right-hander Gregory Santos.

He appeared in two games with the Mariners in 2023, throwing 1.2 scoreless IP with three strikeouts. Berroa will wear uniform No. 66.

Keller, 28, has made three starts with Charlotte this season, going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA (8 ER/16.0 IP) and 14 strikeouts. He signed a minor-league contract with the Sox on March 8.

Keller, 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, is 38-53 with a 4.27 ERA (322 ER/679.0 IP) and 506 strikeouts in 150 career games (114 starts) over six MLB seasons (2018-23), all with Kansas City. He appeared in 11 games (nine starts) with the Royals in 2023, going 3-4 with a 4.57 ERA (23 ER/45.1 IP) and 31 strikeouts.

Keller will wear uniform No. 46.

Cannon, 23, made three starts with the White Sox after his contract was selected from Charlotte on April 16, going 0-1 with a 7.24 ERA (11 ER/13.2 IP) and 13 strikeouts. He made his MLB debut in game one of a doubleheader on April 17 vs. Kansas City (ND, 1 ER/5.0 IP).

García, 24, has gone 1-2 with a 7.07 ERA (11 ER/14.0 IP), 11 walks and 15 strikeouts over 14 appearances this season. He was claimed off waivers from the Yankees on August 10, 2023.

Following the moves, Chicago’s 40-man roster remains at 40.
